The Advancing Reality of Hybrid Cars and American Automakers

It?s been ten years since Toyota introduced their first hybrid car, the Prius, to the market for energy and pollution conscious consumers. The model has seen significant success and maintains a steady waiting list for this interested in owning one. The market is booming and yet where is the competition? Honda hopped on with hybrid models of their popular Civic and Accord models, and Nissan is looking to edge their way in as their market share grows world-wide, but the original developers of the automobile, the American Auto Manufacturers, with the exception of a product line equivalent to sticking their toe in the water, have remained rather silent on the issue.

It looks like 2007 will be a step in the right direction though as 10 new hybrid models will release this year alone, six of those from Detroit?s big three automakers. Ford, Mercury, and Saturn each have their single entry in the field. As it stands though the full support and development budgets that the technology really needs to take off have yet to appear.

So, as GM, Ford, and Daimler Chrysler rev up their sales and attempt to take on a Japanese market with a decade?s head start, what can we look forward to in our hybrid vehicles?

The answer is exciting when you stop to think about the amount of development money and time that could really go into the market if these companies realize that there?s money to be made. When the consumers react and a dozen or more different brands hit the market in competition, the need to step up and offer bigger, better models to stay ahead of the curve will breed the kind of technology race that the auto industry hasn?t seen since the 1970s.

Recent reports released by the UN and the global scientific community state that with CO2 output as it currently stands, worldwide temperatures will rise by nearly 6 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. There are still hold outs on the consensus that technologies such as the automobile are causing harm to our planet, but as more and more come to the realization that this is a reality, the corporations will react accordingly. And if the government takes the steps to curb emissions and raise CAFE standards, it?s entirely likely that the industry might start to shift much of their focus to the hybrid car market in an attempt to curb the inevitable downturn in their profits.

Honda Accord Hybrid Car Review

Honda has been one of the most successful companies when it comes to hybrids and their infusion to the United States car market. The main reason for their success seems to be the fact that they do not sacrifice the power and style when they build the hybrid cars that are rolling off the lines. Unlike the other companies in the game that report less horsepower and reduced speeds with their models, the Honda company was actually able to produce hybrids that had increased horsepower and speeds thanks to their boosts in technology. This helped the company bring the hybrids to the over powering market of the states, where other companies were having to compete only in the foreign markets where speed and power is much less of an issue. Then you must consider the fact that the Honda company did not roll out with a whole line of new models. Instead of messing with the success they had with current models, they simply turned them into hybrids and left the formula alone.

One of the newer additions to the Honda hybrids line up has been the Accord. For many years the Honda Accord has been one of the most popular cars in the world, behind only the Honda Civic. The Accord and Civic are the most stolen cars in the world since they have become fashionable in the street racing world. This is not an issue with the hybrids as they are not set up for the street racing rigors. The Accord was launched and quickly flew to the top of the model line for hybrid vehicles. Thankfully for the company the sales have been very brisk on this line and they are now considering a new generation of the Accord for the 2008 model year. The endearing fact of the Accord is the fact that it is the same trim level as its gas powered cousin. There is nothing, with the exception of the power sun roof, that has been left out or moved when it comes to the trim level.

The high quality that people have come to expect from the Honda and their line of vehicles is not compromised with the hybrid versions. There is no lose of power or speed capabilities, in all truth the newer Honda Accord generation is boasting the fact that the speed is greatly increased as is the horsepower that is backing the vehicle.

Dodge Durango Hybrid Car Review

The history of Dodge is one of strange disappointments and then some major come backs that have launched the company into the top lines of the industry. During the 1980's Dodge rolled out a line of seemingly well built yet inexpensive automobiles and the public began snapping them up. Well it was not long before the bottom started falling out this whole time period. The cars were anything but well made and the problems started happening. The auto maker had went with a cost cutting measure that turned them upside down and nearly drove them bankrupt. They had decided to run a deal where all the new Dodge company models would feature foreign made motors because there was a large price break. Well the motors turned out to be nothing more then junk and they ended up having a huge down turn in sales as nothing was selling amid these disappointments. Beginning in the early 1990's Dodge decided to get back to their grass roots. They introduced the highly popular Ram truck with a new design. Today they are back where they should be and making waves by once again offering the Hemi motor in many of their vehicles.

The Dodge Durango is one such vehicle. The five liter Hemi V8 has been added to the new Dodge Durango and this has made the public very happy. There has been a definite problem though. Thanks to the ever increasing price of gas, the V8 is no longer a popular motor and Hemi does not offer anything less. To answer that issue the Dodge company has decided to roll out the hybrid version of the Dodge Durango, complete with the Hemi V8 motor for the 2008 model year. This has the entire industry in fits as this will be one of the biggest things since the invention of the hybrid. In most cases the hybrids that are created require all new motors. With the new Durango the same Hemi V8 that is now available will have the new electric assist motors attached to improve the gas mileage and the emissions of this widely popular model.

The Durango will feature the new Advanced Hybrid System 2, which is a shared system that was devised in partnership with GM. This system will make the Durango one of the first full hybrid full size SUVs in the entire world. The Dodge company has stated that they expect the new system to increase the Durango's mpg rating to at least thirty miles per gallon in the city, which is practically unheard of for a vehicle that size.

Top 5 reasons to buy a hybrid car

1. - Gas Savings - Hybrid cars can get up to 60 mpg (miles per gallon), due to their advanced aerodynamics, engine efficiency, tire technology (which is so different to the standard cars) just to mention some of its characteristics.

2. - Environmental Issues - Reduced gas emissions equals less air pollution because a hybrid car has an electric motor and batteries to rely on when the gasoline engine is not in use. They can reduce smog up to 90%.

3. - Better engine efficiency - Reducing the overall weight of the hybrid car is a way to increase its efficiency, smaller engines equals better efficiency. Another way is how the hybrid cars recharge they batteries, the hybrid's battery pack never needs to be charged from an external source, every time you hit the brake, the brake system stores some of the energy to the batteries (this is known as regenerative braking). Also the batteries get recharged by the gasoline engine when necessary.

4. - Low Maintenance costs - The electrical motor and the batteries don't require any maintenance; they have the same life span as the car itself. The gas engine doesn't require any more maintenance than any other normal car.

5. - Government Incentives - There's a federal tax deduction for hybrid cars; the new hybrid car tax credit is divided into two parts with tax credits ranging from $400 to $3400. The great news is that a credit is much better than a deduction since the credit does reduce the taxes that are owed. The deduction simply reduces the amount of taxable income.Rick Tames is a researcher and a webmaster; you can find much more information on hybrid cars at www.hybridcars.theknowledgesite.com

All about the Hybrid Car

Efficient Hybrid cars have engines that run off of rechargeable batteries and gasoline opposed to just gasoline or diesel. Hybrid cars can reduce smog up to 90% and can get much better fuel economy then a normal engine.

Efficient Hybrid cars have engines that run off of rechargeable batteries and gasoline opposed to just gasoline or diesel. Hybrid cars can reduce smog up to 90% and can get much better fuel economy then a normal engine. If it could be possible for everyone to use this fuel efficient transportation they would hardly be worry about rising gas prices and rising concern for pollution related climatic changes.

Hybrid car engines run an electric motor when accelerating during this time the gasoline side of the engine is shut down. When the batteries need to be charged again the gasoline engine wills start again. When the hybrid car brakes it usually will return to the electric motor side because of the lower amount of power needed when braking for an extended amount of time.

Hybrid cars are wonderful for the environment; they can get 55-60 miles per gallon in city driving. That is more than three times better then many SUVs! Hybrid cars are much better than electric cars because there is no need to recharge them. Electric cars need to be recharged anywhere from 50-100 miles. The hybrid engine can recharge itself with the gas side of it. So long distance travel is never a problem for the auto enthusiasts with todays hybrid motors. Also another disadvantage of pure electric cars is most of them can only do about 60 miles per hour when the hybrid engine is not limited to lower highway speeds.

If you are looking for more information on these cutting edge cars I would start your research on the internet. On the net you can not only find some of the best information around you can also find some of the best prices on hybrid cars in your neighborhood. With net you browse hundreds of merchants with just a few key strokes.
